The course provides a self-contained presentation of the scattering theory for low-dimensional ballistic heterostructures. The theory will be developed in a tight-binding (TB) approach to emphasize reticular effects which can play a crucial role in treating mesoscopic systems embedding molecular objects. Mesoscopic systems involving superconducting region will also be discussed within a Bogoliubov-de Gennes formulation. Some emphasis will be given to the so-called Andreev reflection phenomenon, both in single- and in two-bands systems. Fully worked examples will be analyzed using the Mathematica commercial software, also providing details on the simulation code. Previous knowledge on quantum mechanics (including the second quantization formalism) and solid state physics will allow the attendant to fully benefit from the course contents.
