Hunting for Dark Matter with directional nanoscopy

9 Novembre 2017 15:00 - 16:30
14 - 15 IV piano St. 9
Dipartimento di FISICA , Univ. `LA SAPIENZA` - ROMA

A major ignorance about the hidden part of our Universe Dark Matter and Dark Energy is stimulating a variety of experimental projects in cosmology, astrophysics and particle physics. In this framework, several attempts are in progress aiming to detect the Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) postulated by supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, ranking among the most creditable candidates to constitute Dark Matter. In this seminar the NEWS-dm project will be presented, a novel approach for direct detection of a directional WIMP flow, based on Nuclear Emulsions. Following successful R&D in nano-imaging , tests are in progress at the INFN underground Gran Sasso Laboratory, where a Kg-scale, suitably shielded nuclear emulsion telescope could be hosted in the near future.
